At Hampden state school we believe that homework or home learning plays an important role in the development of educational outcomes and strive as a school to teach students to value its contribution to their overall educational experience. For us home work or home learning is less about the product and more about the process. Under most circumstances the learning to be undertaken at home should be a revision of learning completed at school and should not cause undue stress on children or their families.
It is the policy of this school that
home learning will be set for all children in all year levels, from Monday to
Thursday inclusive. It is our belief
that weekends should be free from compulsory homework so as to allow maximum
family interaction. Many learning
experiences are derived from children and parents sharing time cooking, working
around the house, playing games, visiting relatives and interesting
locations.
Depending on the student's age weekly home learning will consists of
spelling, reading, high frequency word programs and mathematics and/or times table practice. A
range of incentives are used to encourage students to complete home learning
regularly.
Regulation 37 of the “Education (General Provisions) Regulations 112812” states that a teacher of a state school may require a student to undertake home study which may occupy such an amount of time as the Principal of the school may decide is reasonable in the circumstances.
