School leadership passports
In Term 4 students in Year 5 will be issued
with a leadership passport. This passport outlines the qualities we, as a school,
believe leaders should demonstrate. Students have five weeks in which to ensure their passports are signed off by staff members. Generally passports are
required to be completed by Friday of Week 7.
All Year 5 students who complete their
leadership passports will automatically be recognised as part of the Student
Council for the following year and be able to nominate for the positions of
School and House Captain.
Nominations for positions will be required
by Week 8. Speeches and elections for Leadership Positions will be held on
Friday of Week 9 with the announcement of positions to happen at the End of
Year Awards Evening Week 10.
Only leaders elected to the positions of
School and Sports Captains will receive a leadership badge during the induction
ceremony. All students who complete passports will be recognised as members of
the student council.
Student
leadership position nomination procedures
Students
nominating for official leadership positions (School and House Captains) will
be required to deliver a short speech outlining why they wish to be voted into
their nominated position.
In most
years there will be more students nominating for school and house captains than
available positions (6) so as a result some students will miss out on elected
positions. It is the principal’s responsibility to discuss the policy and
procedure with students prior to the nomination date of week 8. The school should also send a copy of this
policy home to families of nominating students to review the policy and
procedure with them and to reinforce the message that regardless of the
outcome, their contribution as a Student Council member will be valued and
going through the election process is an important life learning experience.
